Our Lady of Guadalupe is venerated by Catholics throughout the world as the apparition of the Virgin Mary which appeared on Tepeyac hill in Mexico City to the indigenous Chichimec, Juan Diego. However, before the Spanish conquest, there was a temple of adoration to the goddess Tonantzin on Tepeyac and many Mexicas and other Nahua people believe that on the top of that hill the mother of the gods appeared.

Tonantzin, Coatlicue, Cihuacóatl, or Tetéoinan is “the divine mother” and under the name of “Cihuacóatl/The Serpent Woman,” this goddess also served as a protector of women. The name "Guadalupe" itself is a corruption of the Nahuatl word "Coatlaxopeuh" which means "the one who defeats the snake."

Whether you view her as Mary or Tonantzin, she is the Divine Mother and can be called on to perform miracles, provide protection, and heal your heart.
